Up before dawn, and even before the roster crows, I am in the kitchen frying up bacon and eggs, baking biscuits, and making sure all the men folk get a great breakfast. They work hard and need a great start to their day. My name is Addy and along with my husband William, our two sons, Willy and Gus, and two other hired hands work the fields to grow the food for the village. When I was a little girl, my mommy taught me how to cook and clean. She always said, "give your man a good breakfast and he will work hard all day". Since moving to German Ridge our lives have improved. Dairy Farming is not easy but with the help of the other farmers near by, we are getting much better. Long days are the normal thing for us and starting with breakfast helps to get it started. William and the boys are learning everyday and we hope to add more cows next spring. Even before it is light, I am at the iron stove cooking. Willy and Gus help with the fire wood so I can cook. They have always had chores to do and are very hard workers.
