Autumn Leaf
We are a humble and proud people with a rich history. I am a farmer and take care of my children. This is my role as it is with all Shawnee Women. Swift Wolf hunts and protects our family. Together we provide for our family as we journey towards our new land. We live in a wikkum on our tribal land that Swift Wolf and I built together over two moons ago. It meets our needs for us and our children. This wikkum will be our home until we move on. During the growing season, I planted and harvested corn and squash and maize. I will make soups and stews with our harvest. Once Swift Wolf brings back the elk, deer, or turkey, we will have meat for the winter. I spend much of my time also carving beautiful woodcarvings, making pottery and beadwork. I also weave bags and rugs and create rope out of wild hemp. We have many rules but the one most honored was called "the Golden Rule". The "Golden Rule" of the Shawnees was: "Do not kill or injure your neighbor, for it is not him that you injure, you injure yourself. But do good to him, therefore add to his days of happiness as you add to your own. Do not wrong or hate your neighbor, for it is not him that you wrong, you wrong yourself. But love him, for Moneto loves him also as he loves you."
