My name is Prisciller and I love going to school. I am the first in my family to go to school. Each morning, after doing my chores, I put on my gingham dress with my bonnet and head down the path towards the road. It takes me about 30 minutes to walk the road to get to the school house. As I walk along the road, I recite my lesson for the day. Miss Betty Miller, our teacher just moved into our little town. She is really nice and if the boys chase after me, she makes them sit in the dunce seat. I laugh when they have to wear the pointed cone hat. I guess math is a favorite subject. It has always come easy for me and I love school because of it. Most girls talk about dresses and playing house but I love coming to school. Miss Miller, our teacher lives down by Smith Creek with the Wilson family. They took her in when she came to our school last year. I love the way she laughs and sings songs to us each day. One day I hope to be a teacher just like her. From the time the school bell rings and we come into the school house it is time to begin learning. We start with the Pledge and Prayer and then begin our reading and spelling lessons. Other children run and play but I love to read. Susie and I are best friends and usually walk to school together. Her family are tobacco farmers so she sometimes has to miss school to help on the farm. We have been friends for a long time. after the bell rings to end recess, it is time for mathematics . This is what I look forward to.
