Denby Truck
One would think the engine required to carry 6,000 pounds of cargo plus the truck weight of 5,500 pounds would be formidable. Surprisingly, the Denby used the original 22.5-horsepower Continental engine mated with an on-the-floor three-speed forward plus reverse transmission made by Detroit Gear and Machine Co. The top speed was 12 mph before the governor was removed, and once removed it could zip along at 18 mph.

There are three floor pedals — the brake, clutch and accelerator — but the much smaller accelerator pedal is placed between the clutch and brake. For brakes, the Denby has rear wheel-only mechanical brakes and one would wonder how long it would take to stop this 11,500-pound mass rolling down a steep hill.
