"My Pappy use to say, “never underestimate the power of the unexpected.” Just as the chase had unfolded through the thick darkness, something caught my eye. Right in the middle of what was to become a blood bath, walked a little black and white furry skunk. As if on cue, the skunk stopped right in the middle of the clearing and seemed to be unaware of the ensuing fight. Just as the fur was about to fly, I guess the skunk decided to chime in. Lifting its tail and spraying the air, the skunk seemed to be saying, “Enough of this fight”. After what seems like a lifetime of waiting, my story comes to its unexpected end. The hungry bear took off over the ridge while the Bobcat, with its tail tucked between its legs, headed down towards the creek bed. As for my furry friend, the skunk, she just walked away as if heading home after a big hunt. As for me, I headed back to my log hut for a much needed meal and rest. Tomorrow, I will start the long trek back across the mountains to sell my furs and skins. My name is Simon "Raccoon" Kenton, and I am a hunter and trapper on the South slope of the Appalachian Mountains".
